Got adware viruses on the PC and most give a free scan but then want you to pay to delete.

Anyone have a link for a site that does this for free.

Cheers

Mike

I use Spybot for spyware... only draw back updates & scans are manaual
only
Comodo firewall (free) a bit of a pest when first installed as its learning what to allow or block
agree with Dancingbay AVG free is tops for anti-virus

AVG is widely considered as the best free one on the market I use it and it updates itself regularly and i've had zero problems.

spybot rules! have it on all y work pcs 8)

i use paretologic, its the best bar none, but you have to pay or you could DL it and PM me for the serial

the free version of AVG does not handle spyware only viruses, you have to pay for the AVG internet security version that deals with spyware/malware as well.

i didn't realise that AVG didn't do everything for me, so do you think i still have spies watching my every move?

better get it sorted

Spybot

System Security Suite

CCleaner

Be careful with the last if you use an ipod - it seems to move the music to odd places, maybe back it up first? For me it gets rid of loads of, well as the full name says, crap!

I find reading the IT supplement of the Guardian on a Thursday tips me off about good programs.

Also - anyone else found HiJack That or something similar useful? You use it and then post on a geeks site and some kind nerd helps you clear unwanted stuff off your pc! I'll have to track it down again...

AVG is considered the best on the market second only to caspersky, however you have to pay to get the best stuff but it`s not exactly expensive. The free stuff sorted me out for over a year.

I've got Avira for firewall and Lavasoft Ad-awarefor spyware. Both are freeware programs, and I've used them for years with no problems. I don't know much about computers and these were recommeded to me by a friend who is IT pro.

I've uploaded spyware doctor and seems to have stopped the problem.

Thanks for feedback and should the problem come back i'll use some of the other's recommended.

Sorry if im stating the obvious. Heres a few tips for preventing spyware getting on your computer. Run your PC's behind a NAT firewall router. Crank your security setting up for the "internet zone" if your running IE. Dont use the admin login for general pc use so software cant install automaticly. And ofcourse the use of AV & Malware software as already discussed. :)

if your running freeware versions its better to run several because each one will pick up malware the other missed so you have a better chance to catch them all.

lavasoft 'ad-aware' + 'spybot S & D', together, should give you enough protection against malware/spyware and AVG Free will cover the virus end, run these all at least once a week.
