Hi all

Been reading this months Volksworld  and started sorting out my engine bay seals etc after the keeping your aircooled alive section.
My engine is running a pancake (crap) airfilter leaving the old hole exposed (no smutt please  )where the filter pip use to be. Right side back of engine.

What have people done to block this? Sucks loads of warm air otherwise.
Is it worth routing some pipe work out of this hole under the bus to in front of the engine to gain a bit more cooling intake?

Phil

weld it up or fit a big grommet/plate over it same goes for the preheat holes if you are running twin carbs.
About to do this on mine when the tinware returns from the blasters.

yup, same as i did on my old engine, you can buy block offs from SSP for the pre-heats, and weld up the hole

As per this nikki carb

I welded up the hole on my bug when I went to twin carbs, which don't need a preheat.

However, if you're running a single carb you need to have the stock air filter. Trust me, it'll run loads better with the preheat connected up properly ;)

if this is the tinware piece you are talking about, i found a piece that fits without the hole, failing this on my brothers bug we got a coke can, cut it in half, cut the edges to make a star and riveted it in place then sealed it with heat resistant mastic
