dear all

forgive the fact that i know nothing about engines and all my knowlege comes from reading bits and i call everything the thingy next the whats it but i need help

my van was making a bad noise so my mate who is good with vans and me replaced the cv joints as the boots were gone all over so we did that and my van for a week no longer sounded like a 747 taking off

but then i noticed a griding noise and low and behold i had been given a set of bolts that were too long and they had poked to far through the drive flange and had managed to wear a way the plate that sits between the drive flange and the main casing.

so i now have cv bolts that are the right size as they have been worn down but i also have a lump of curled up metal that i can remove but is this attached to anything and what did it do?

will leaving it to be free bugger up things i think the thing that has been destroyed is part 23 below

i bought this part and it is plastic not metal and to be honest i have no idea how to get the drive flange off if this part needs replacing

any help would be welcomed

thanks in advance

Does it leak oil?, does it drive ok?, presumably the part is to do with the output shaft oil seals etc, if the van does not leak and drives ok i'd be inclined to see how you get on with it, I'm sure stripping the box is no easy matter but by the time you've messed about with it it's probably easier to source and fit a cheap used replacement box and whack that in instead .

Theres opinion 1
