Hi all,

I've got a 64 splitty with a 2 inch narrowed weedeater beam on adjusters.

It's quite a bouncy ride so taken the beam up as far as it will go to fit some dropped spindles.

I am on the lowest setting on the adjusters (i.e. bus as high as I can get it) and there is not sufficient clearance for the dropped spindles so don't think that's gonna happen.

Just taken the bus out for a spin and was expecting it to be quite a soft ride, but it's till really bouncy?

haven't put the shocks back on yet, so not sure how much difference that will make?

I appreciate that i've got a narrowed beam, but it's only 2 inch narrowed, so wouldn't have thought that would make that much difference?

i've got 185/65/15 tyres on so not maga-low profile.

It's just bounce, bounce, bounce - can't live with that as the wife suffers from a bad neck!

I've got a beetle with a standard beam & dropped spindles and that rides beautifully.

Is there something amiss somewhere?

Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.

thanks

Realise that the shocks will make a difference but if you open the door and sit on the edge of the door step and jump up and down there is like NO noticeable suspension movement?

Over the speed bumps in our road, there is no movement of the suspension, just like bounce from the air in the tyres!!

Is this just the way it is with a narrowed beam?

A narrowed beam has narrowed leaves. The leaves get their "bounce" from resistance to the rotation (torsion) as they want to go back to their natural state. Narrower leaves means less turning strength, so I suspect it would feel a bit bouncier (the torsion is less, but the van weight is the same).

Shocks (also known as dampeners) work in conjunction with the torsion to "soften" its effects.

Running without shocks is a bit of a nonsense test as the leaves are not designed to work solo. The correct shocks will make a whole world of difference!

...or some nonsense to this effect! :msn4:

Assuming you have a split beam in the bus still?
In which case are your linkpins well greased and moving freely?
If not then they could cause issues with ride

Seriously, re fit the dampers and then see how it is. Pointless trying to solve anything else until thats done. :)
