Hi guys,

Listen, this problem has been giving me headaches for a while so I thought I'd throw it at you techheads and see if you can give me some helpfull insights.
Here are my old calipers, they were not salvageable so I decided to buy new ones

Here are the new ones I got, an idiot can see that they're not the same, but the shop insisted these are correctemundo. I found that the silver one (right) was the one that fitted correctly, the disc was smack in the middle of the pads. The gold one however didn't fit at all, the caliper touched the 13mm disc and the gaps between pad & disc are uneven.
I bought these 4 weeks ago and had 3 different gold ones but actually they were all the same.

WHAT TO DO??

what year are you again? 71 or 72? just wondering if you had 1 year only calipers on the 71.

you may find that the calipers need shimmed to even out both side and the disc.

As it turns out, I have just stripped down my calipers and spindles & discs on my 71 to replace with later everything, so basically I have a complete early and a complete late setup to hand. I will be working on them this weekend, so might be able to shed some light on it after that.

If you're sure the ones that were originally on the van (the yellow ones) were a matched pair, then I'd guess you've been supplied one early and one late caliper. BUT, you need to establish first what year of setup you had to start with!

Hoping I don't run into similar problems now!

the 72 on had a thicker disk and hence a larger caliper. The 71 only had one mod that being the addition of a second bleed nipple early in 71. So I would say thats your problem fella one 71 and one 72.

the fact there so very different would strike me that your supplier dont know his arse from his elbow.

Get yer verniers out and compare the critical dimensions with your originals

take it back and get the matched silver and all should be ok

im 99% sure the early one year onlys are not made anymore, maybe you have two different types?

Hi
I have a 72 crossover model and the calipers are the same as the one on the left and the last photo hope this helps any

you definitely cant buy new 71 calipers, im pretty sure of that, so id guess you have got two 72 on caliper possibly from different manufacturers?

I agree, 71 onlys are not available.

Perhaps the one that does not fit is from something else like a t25?
You deffo need to take em back to the seller.

ive just finished rehoning the cylinders on my 71 only calipers and they didnt look like either of those very much. if it helps i know megabug do a 71 to 72 caliper change kit including spindles disks and calipers for about 180ish quid. thats what i was going to get if they had been unrepairable.
