So an update
today the alternator pulley disintegrated as we drove through a fairly deserted national park in Southern Spain...fortunately I have two old spare ones. As usual in Spain though a few people stopped to help. Two motorbikers one a mechanic and the other a guardia civil, who'd earlier given me the thumbs up as we'd seen them going the other way, stopped and helped me remove the old one which had welded itself on. Rescued the alternator although there's a fair bit of aluminium missing now! Got going in half hour. Off to Estepona tomorrow to hopefully buy a new pulley from Luis at volkstuning.
We are staying at a cracking cottage near Gaucin an hour or so from Gibraltar which we rented as a bit of a celebration of my Mrs 40th it's 3km down a dirt track hence the state of the van. We have a few days left before heading back up through Spain and I think I've just agreed to see a mate in Chamonix about 24th August, might ve been drunk when I agreed to that...more breakdowns in store?
my shopping list is:-
alternator pulley(s)
woodruff key
fan belts (1 left)
window winder
steering coupling
or am I being too nervous ? any more suggestions? - we do have breakdown cover now but limited call outs and they'll only tow me to a garage who'll scratch their heads...
here's a couple of pics
this just after pulley went
