evening,

My bug-pack exhaust is dead :shock: :cry: :cry:

I'm hoping to find some advice( i have read all the 254ish threads about exhausts) I really have a trouble with clearance on my van, i have a very steep slope getting on/off my drive & the rear of my van is down 1 spline. The bug pack catches so much it has flatted the tri-angle flange.

I'm hoping to replace my whole system, I'm thinking about going back to standard exhaust???????
I do like the noise/note that the bug pack makes, but do i really get any more BHP then a standard set up????

Any help would be great thanks

i would like to know the answer to your questions too mate

i want to change my exhaust as i have caught mine a few times too
i think mate its makes alittle difference but not 100% sure

I believe that a stock exhaust will give you the best clearance or if yoy have the cash a CSP python is the one (nicely tucked away :wink: )

On my van i have a stainless JK system and the van is 1 spline down at the back and no probs anywhere. I did have it 2 splines down and only caught a bit on sharp inclines like drives.

Bluebird now do a stock stainless for a stock motor at almost £300 ain't cheap but how many mild-steel zausts that turn to rust will you have to buy & fit for that money

I went from twin QP to stock bug exhaust on my 72 bay and noticed no difference in power at all. Have a gander at this. I changed my stock exhaust to a JK stainless system and got about 4-5 extra BHP. Thats correct as i had a rolling road read out before and after the change, within the same month. It all helps dood :wink:

I had this one on my old van and must say it was a bloody good peice of work and clearance was no problem what so ever as you would expect from the standard vw design. Performance wise about the same as Easy states.

Also worth noting that you should aim for at least £50 less than the advertised price on the BlueBird web site when buying at a show. The web price includes delivery which wouldn't be required and the usual cash discount.

I was lucky as picked mine up from ebay @ £80'ish so keep your eyes peeled as they do pop up every now and again.
 
You will notice a loss in power going back to a stock exhaust, from a 4 into 1 quietpack type system. The stock exhaust is imbalanced, one side is shorter than the other for a start. It is all about efficient gas flow, the better the gas flows out, the better it will flow in.

Just received my sidewinder exhaust for my new engine, I think it will have a good ground clearance, and 200€ less than the Python right on my door (gone with a custom made all stainless steel version like the Python)

I only have those crappy pictures by my father's phone (My bus is in my parent's house ~300 miles from where I live for work).

you wont notice squat. especially with a relatively stock motor, 009 and a KN don't count. a typical interior etc. by the time the few hp's either way are translated to the road, won' t make any odds. most folks that imply a noticable difference, it's purely in their heads. it's neurogically intrinsically natural; a new component, a stimulating tone, the thrill of the road, a sense of satisfaction. how can it NOT make a difference? whatever. get it for clearence, sound, be it loud or quiet and longevity and forget performance. unless you run a real trick motor where all the little bits add up to make a not so small bit, yeah? but if thats the case you don't need advice on exhausts.

for what it's worth i've been running a monza 4-tip for years. i know, i know, they're hated and i hated them too at one time. i put it on cos it was to hand and i needed an exhaust.

tucks up behind the valance nice and neat, great ground clearence and nice and quite with a good tone. van is 2-3 splines down and dog-legged spring-plates, seriously low and no clearence issues, except in field etc.

it's starting to go now. i'm considering buying another and hacking a couple of tips off to just leave two, not so ricer.
