Hi Guys,
had some good help on here from previous posts, so thanks for that!

Just wondered if any 1 had built there own engine. Thinking of building my own while keeping the van running then changing over when its finished.
Heard some bad reviews on some recon engines, but I suppose everyone will have had different story to tell on this, so wanted to try and build my own using new (good recon) parts wherever pos, and would prefer to get the whole engine as a kit.

My dad had done this kind of thing before but not with VW's so hoping he can help me with the build.

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated to avoid a potential horror story and a cheap ebay deal for someone.

Many Thanks

Maggy

I brought a recon engine............ The biggest mistake I ever made!!!! nothing but trouble, got an original Volkswagen twinport in it atm and when I get round to it I'll have a big motor built by a proper engine builder. Places like Auto Tecniks and alike will cost more but will be worth it in the long run.

Buy an engine case and have it checked over by a machine shop to see if it needs an line bore, buy the best items you can afford and take your time. Invest in a Bentley Manual and a decent set of tools including a torque wrench.
These engines aren't rocket science

Buy this book and read it from cover to cover before even thinking about starting....
