Want to extend my garage so that i can get the van into it, when the MG goes.

All that needs to be done is a new bigger door moving out giving me an extra 4ft 8", and the wall blocking in.
The garage door will be moved out to be inline with the rest of them in the row.
Was thinking about putting up outward opening wooden doors , made so the lines match the rest of the garages.

The door needs to move out to the white strip.

Any advice would be a great help. I'm not a builder so have nooo idea on how things get done.

Then the van only needs lowering by 2.5" to fit in.
Been into local planning office, not very helpfull would only speek to me over the phone didnt want to come down to see me.
Suggested that i submit planning permission. Which seems strange as im not building new just altering.

I'm no expert but I'd have thought that if you're going to match the other doors there shouldn't be an issue - but you'll have trouble moving that lintle!

Take some (more) pics, do a bit of photoshop and see how it looks - talk to your neighbours too and see what they think.

The trouble is that the Council will want payments at every stage of your application  , our local council here doesn't require permission for any structure under 15 square metres - perhaps your council has a similar policy?

;)

Hi Rusty,

Where in Somerset are you? I'm sure I've seen that beetle tootling around?!?!

We had an extension built a few years ago, and on the advice of our builder enquired with the council as to whether we require planning or not, we had to submit some simple drawings (which I did) and they assessed the size of the extension vs. the amount of land.

They ruled that we didn't need permission. If you are under the same council as we are I can't see you needing permission from them - you will need building inspectors to assess during all the work though.

If I can find out more info I'll let you know

mate I would put a door in the side not blocks then you have easy access it should be easy enough to move the doors just look at how they are fitted now and copy it tools you will need spirit level hammer drill good strong fixings fishers and a few other hand tools let us know how you get on. Frankie ...ps make sure there are no issues with changing the appearance of the doors you know local council and dogie neighbours and all that.

Theres a side door up my alley way, to keep in line with the rest the door would have to be fixed on the new wall, cos i did think about boarding it up with T&G to match some on the houses around the area, but then thought that any ass with a jemmy bar could get in.

if you need a new beam to go above where you put the new door, let me know - i cna supply you with one.

Thanks but dont need one as the doors may be side opening ones and just going to fill the gap, wont be load supporting.

Its a shared access, which they never use and you cant see it as its open but there is a 7ft high wooden gate. Made by me a few yrs ago. :D
