My cab doors are pretty poor along the bottom and as i cant weld, my mates that can are busy and cant help for a while and i dont trust anyone else to do a good job of the welding through past experiance! I was wondering if i can buy new doors for my 71 bay. I know you can get new doors from jk and the like but im gathering they are for the late bays and somethings different about the hinges.....can anyone shed some light on the subject for me please :)

Try http://www.fbivw.com , http://www.volksheaven.co.uk they seem to have a good stock of used parts .

hi,wouldnt buy new doors from jk i did not very good fit ,mate bought some secondhand american ones overall asgood as new and excellent fit and cheaper

the late bay require a hinge adaptor and theres some query on the position of the lock pulls as brought up very recently but off hand cant remember who raised the thread.

I would give FBI or Volksheaven a call and go for a **** hot solid dry climate import of the correct year then you've no worries.

then repair what you have and recoupe some of your outlay.

The door pressing has both postions for the interior door handle but you will need to drill holes and use a M8 nut and bolt to fit a early style handle.
Late doors will also have a hole in the top inside edge for the lock popper.

You are best off fitting the correct door, although you could try a crossover or early T2b door, which will have the cold air vents in but has the bolt holes for the early style interior door handle.

JK new doors are geniune VAG bay doors... they cant get them anywhere else. Anyone selling new doors has to get them from the same shipment.

The ones i bought from JK fit pretty damn good and i only needed a early to late door adapter kit £16, i had no problem with the door locks, handles or bars and had no drilling to do to the internal handles. I have a 71 (not a crossover, although i have discs up front). Early doors differ alot as the guys have said but i think your 71 will only need the adapter kit if its the same as mine.

bad fitting doors are maybe due to bad arches like the brazilian ones.

Hope this helps
