Got myself a set of early calipers >72 going to recon them and fit them to the van. They seem to be handed. The way around the ridge on the piston goes when fitting them back to the van does the ridge face up or down.
Plus the caliper bolt with the sholder on. JK say they go on the top, the calipers on my van are on the bottom ( they only fit in one hole). Has the previous owners cocked it up and fitted them the incorrect way around.
Want to make sure i fit them the correct way around.

Hope that made sence cos it dont to me

Cheers RD.

Someones got nto know, PLEASE!!!!! :D

I promise i will stop asking daft questions then.

Cheers Johnny that be great, now am possitive my spare set are early ones, due to hole size where pads go into, and i did a part no. check on the pads that came out, that pointed to an early pair.
Going to referb mine on Thurs, if the seals turn up.
Will be good to let me know any probs encounterd on the way.

Does the cutout on the caliper piston go on the top or bottom? when fitting the calipers back on the vehicle.

there you go....

the cutout goes to the bottom facing the trackrod balljoint direction (if that makes sense)

why did you split the caliper? to have it honed? personally i wouldnt have done that unless there was a serious brake fluid leak or they were totally seized?

my main problem was the kit GSF supplied was utter crap and probably the wrong seals altogether nothing fitted at all.

Bugger got a set comming today from GSF

well... i have a late and early set of calipers and the refurb set was totally different than what i pulled off the the earlies. They had a steel ringed outer seal the refurb kit didnt, but had a circlip type wire and a separate seal. you may be able to work it but mine were too dirty so ill just blast them and probably split the caliper to see.

Just refurbished my early calipers tonight, seals fitted all ok. Bought from GSF.
Gonna fit the calipers, discs and new pads tomorrow. Then fingers crossed the mot man say YES.
