Hi Yall
We have a 1776 to go in the bus over the winter but dont know what size cam if fitted, is there any way to find out without stripping the engine
hope you can help

Dont think there is buddy - might have to just strip the engine and crack the case to see - ive googled and cant see any other way of finding out the cam

Ive found these specs on a different site ref standard cam shaft profile

Type 1: 1300-1600:

Inlet opens: 7.5 deg BTDC
Inlet closes: 37 deg ABDC
Exh opens: 44.5 deg BBDC
Exh closes: 4 deg ATDC.

This is VW specs, measured at 1mm lift.
Seems all type 1 1300-1600 from about 1960- 1980 used above.

Might be able to tell if the standard cam is still being used - will have a further look and see if anything is out there for a 1776

Take the oil pump out and if it's a performance cam it will be stamped by the pump key way, W120, FK10 or C25 etc if not it will most likely be a stock cam
