Hi All

Been searching for a reason for blowing fuses and think I might have found it in some bare wire going to the indicator switch, however when I've reassembled it it won't stay down to indicate left, it's fine to the right but not the left. Have I busted the switch or is there some arcane way to reassemble it that I'm getting wrong. Clue me in if your in the know

Cheers

Make sure the screws that hold it in the column housing are not too long as they can foul the mechanism, happened to me,never mind I thought I'll buy a new switch, then saw the price. In the end I took it apart drilled out the securing rivets, glued the contact circuit board back together then glued the case back on.I used a 2 part locktite like araldite only better. If you buy a new switch feel free to send me your old one.

Hi Max

I don't think it's the screws as it used to work, however when I took it part this afternoon I got it working left and right, put it back together and it will indicate right and stay indicating but it won't stay indicating left - any other ideas?

Just solved the same problem.

Take off the single spring on the inside edge o the switch (as opposed to the pair of springs on one of the faces) as this seems to provide the pressure that holds the switch in the on position. Gently operate the switch and you will see that the springs pull metal lobes into notches on a pair of metal 'fingers' that move when you operate the switch. Mine had become shiny & slightly rounded, so there was not enough friction for the spring to hold the lobe in the notch.
A GENTLE tickle with a dremmel took the shine off and at the same time I took off a small a very amount of metal to very slightly reprofile the lobe closer to it's original unworn shape. Seems to have done the job.

Only problem I have now it having replaced the switch, the dashboard tell tale lights flash quickly (but not the indicators) until I turn the indicators on. I know it's not my fix because this started when I tried to to be a smart arse & fitted a different switch (more wires & terminals). Worked fine with a temporary splice to the wiring loom, only began when I soldered the new switch in, so recon'd the old switch but this new problem is still there still there. Bang goes another day off!
