you will almost certainly need to remove the air filter stand. What sort of carbs are you fitting?
And you will need to block off the pre-heat pipes on your exhaust - unless you are fitting a non-stock exhaust.

Just under the air filter there is a stand that it attaches to like this in the pic ¬
That normally needs to be cut off to allow clearance for the RHS carb.

ok got that cheers but i cant pull the inlet section out that the carb is attached to
buy the way nice engine and bay

I "think" you can get the inlet manifold centre out if you remove the dizzy, fuel pump & the two manifold ends but its probably easier to remove the engine completely & do the whole job on the floor (removing genny & stand etc) - it will also allow you to check that you are getting a good fit with your new manifolds etc

ok nice one lox not the couple of hour job that i thought bloody vans thought i would be in and out like my flat four best i make a day of it instead of an evening which is now getting dark ;)

You will need to pull the dynamo off unless you cut the pre heat pipe off. But that will ruin a useful manifold.

all done and dusted not the most pleasent job but finished pete cant get these carbs to idle sweet reading a bit of info on them that pinehead sent me and it seems they only run on two cylinders on tick over which makes it sound like its missing but when throttling it up it clears strange set up unless i,ve missed something

Is this any help?

Not sure if these are the right carbs or not - I did notice that VW Heritage said you cant fit them with a late style fanshroud:

Though the guy in the link above seems to have fitted them ok?????

Most common fault from fitting new carbs are air leaks. Spray some carb or brake cleaner round the base of the inlet manifolds with the engine running & see if it picks up.
