yes, the only thing holding it in place is the head, so should come off, might be some of the small tinware between the studs hold it down slightly.

the fins are extremely fragile though!! i normally put a towel or rag folded up on top then a flat piece of wood and then give it a tap.

What he said, gently tap the barrell alternating up and down blows with a rubber or wooden mallet whilst gently prising the cylinder away from the case works fine.

gonna chikin out on this and take it some where to get the
case saver done :sad2:

the barrels are a piece of piss fella, rubber/beech mallet old tea towels, concentrate on the barrel portion with a slight twisting with the odd tap to the side of the fins working around, once the old seal has broken and it starts moving it will come easy enough.....its all about protecting the large fins as already said they are scarily easy to snap off..... a little penetrant at the base wd40 and the likes may also help....I had one barrel in one of the spare cases only relinquished its grip on the third day of bashing the crap out of it

took the engine to a machine shop in bridgwater this morning to get the case savers fitted
ill feel better if they brake them
