Hi!

As far as I'm aware there have been no 'proper' Danbury rallies, other than perhaps the occasional two or three buses parking up together at events.

Well, with the new Danbury website up and running, and already a dozen or so of us Danbury owners 'signed up' to it, maybe we should see if we can organize a meet, possibly next year, by which time hopefully loads more Danburys will have 'come out of the woodwork'! :D

So, ideas and suggestions would be welcome!
Where could we meet? At a show, with our own Danbury area perhaps? At a campsite somewhere, making a weekend of it? In a large car park somewhere and go for a Danbury 'cruise'? I don't know. What do you think?

I've often thought it would be good to maybe do a return to the 'birth place' of our Danbury conversions. Danburys in Danbury!
I have no idea whether the original factory/industrial units where our buses were fitted out still exists? Maybe now a superstore or 100 houses are on the original site? All the Danbury 'blurb' that I have seen says what it says on the badges on the back of our buses, 'Danbury, near Chelmsford, Essex', so no actual address or post code to find. I do have later literature (late 1980s) from the 'original' Danbury company. Quite possibly there is an address on there I can check, but I have a feeling there is no actual address shown on this later literature either.
Anyone else know the exact location? I shall do some research and see what I can come up with. Wouldn't it be great if someone who actually worked at the factory, fitting out our buses was to get in touch! If you are one of those people, or know one of them, then please do get in touch!

Anyway, input, ideas and suggestions are welcome! :D

Hey there Doug sounds a good idea.........

Just put a link on VZi for this and the wiki so hopefully we get some L8 bays etc

I'm in Dorset so if you wanted a sink unit to copy you can borrow mine :?: I re-built my seat units and will be taking the overhead locker out to rebuild soon :?: :?:

I reckon meet at a show, weekends get pretty busy with existing shows as it is during the summer. Then the weather gets rubbish as the show season ends.

I reckon more people would turn up at a show as well because they would have 2 reasons, the Danbury meet and the show itself.

Danbury was on main road

Not a lot there looking at the aerial pic!

Hi Doug,

I think the Danbury's in Danbury idea would be great provided that there was a big enough crowd and if we could locate the original plant/address to visit (that's assuming there is still something there to look at?). However I'd not be surprised to learn it was all levelled.

Failing that then a Danbury line-up/area at an existing show would be the ticket.

Must add though that my Bus will most likely still be off the road for the remainder of this year and therefore it'd have to be next year if I were to attend.... with the van that is!

Cheers

Dan

loving all these ideas bouncing around,at last danbury is to be recognised lets go for it get those buses lined up loud n proud

doug wot a fantastic idea i like it. chelmsford would be good for me i don't live to far. but i don't mind i would try and make it where ever it is. if i'm welcome as i pass my tintop off as a danbury but its not complete i think it has been messed with inside over so much over the last 40yrs there are important bits missing but not all of them i'v tried looking 4 wot i need but very hard to find. but wot i do have is the little badge on the back with the address of danbury on the back so if i can take part i will do my best to get there. i also have a suggeston there's a show in battlesbridge at the end of month thats rite near chelmsford i'm going as i put my van in the show each year and its a good one mayb we could speak to the essex vee dubbers and see about a danbury line up if n e body is up 4 it.

Thanks for all your input so far! :D

Dan, no fears, next year is when I am thinking of, so hopefully your van will be up and running in good time!

Neil, as far as I'm concerned any bus that originally had the little 'Danbury' badge on the back is welcome, even if the badge is the only remaining Danbury item!
I think half the fun of seeing a group of Danburys together is to not only see the original buses, un-changed since they left the Danbury factory all those years ago, but also to see what interesting changes and different ideas have been adopted over the years!

Mjknight, thanks for the offer of me borrowing your sink unit to copy. I may well trundle over to Dorset at some stage! :)

Doug

its nearly all there just need to find some bits if n e body knows of n e going but ur probably all gonna keep it for urselfs.

yeah can't wait for danbury outing should be fun.

This is a cool idea, and even though i don't own a Danbury at the moment i would love to see a line up somewhere. 8)

And Neil, i'm not sure if he's ready to sell any of it yet but i know Danburydubba has maybe 3 spare interiors that he's been hoarding, while searching for the final bits for his bus.

But shhh don't tell him i told you

I will be starting the restoration on his Danbury soon so it might be worth pm'ing him :D

Cheers Jason, the response for a Danbury meet is really positive! :D

Veering slightly off topic again... I'm glad you love Fords too! My current Escort is a Ghia, also on an 'H' plate, but sadly I think it will have to go, as four cars is too many for me.

Doug
