i know the 67 decklids are like hens teeth but if you go for an earlier say 66, things like new doors are impossible to get repro. i had a beautiful 6Volt 66 deluxe (in my sign) that i moved on for 4K, it was perfect inside but had a few spots of rust on the doors and that was it. If i was buying again on a budget and wanted a sloper id get a pre 65 model.

theres also a 67 only deck on VZi not mine cheap as chips! btw.. not that it makes any diff

What about a 1302s, all the benefits of the 1303 (Mcpherson strut suspension, front discs, 1600 motor) but still retains the character flat windscreen ('71 model) and metal dashboard of the older bugs which gives them there charm.

Only made for 2 years as well so there's not so many of them about and they are easy to spot, as time goes on I think people will come around to the virtues of the '02.

However I may be biased ;)

Great thread - having got the air cooled bug am considering a beetle down the line - I know which ones I look at and think look great but haven't got a clue about years/models :) - I like the so'cal type look without bumpers, non-oval and nicely slammed - just wondering which year are best for this? Think they mostly have the "tomb stone" rear lights? Will find a piccie as I think the look is spot on for a bug!

I've got a '67 - definitely up there for me: Sloping headlights, blade bumpers, 12v, lots of 1 year only parts (not a problem if you've got all the tricky parts already!), balljoint front end but wide 5 wheels.

It takes a lot of work to keep it on the road but it's my wife's daily driver and she loves it too!!

;)

So, I've been and gone and done it!!!!!! :D

Any of you care to guess at what I got???

Cheers fella,

I can't wait to pick it up next week :D :D :D

I'm kinda thinkin' that I've walked into this with my eyes wide shut so not too sure yet what owning a '66 means i.e. What are the key differences between say a '66 and a '67? Which are the hard to find parts? etc, etc....

Then again I'm too giddy to be bothered

Bring on the summer :D :D :D

Its probably worth buying one of the guides that are on Amazon, I bought one last year but can't seem to find it on there anymore but it looks like they have divided the years up for beetles now.

If you think early bays have a lot of differences then beetles complete madness for model year changes etc

I would have gone with a '67. I bought a 1200 standard model as a project in 1993 and it took me 10 years to get to this:

Parts were not a problem.

Yeah the hanger is ready to go on and after having discussed the repair it seems pretty straightforward.

As for the colour it's an awful lot brighter than the pics suggest. In the sunshine it pretty much burns out y' retinas

I have also just sucumbed to the bug of also having a beetle. Bought for the wife of course :msn4:  As I couldn't own yet another vehicle.

It's a 65 ragtop, collect it this friday, so got the giddy feeling again

Needs new interior and bit of a tidy up, cant wait.

Not sure where I'll get the time to work on the Beetle, porsche engine for the bus and the 1/2 bay trailer, But still I can dream the day when they are all complete and lined up
