As above really
spotted an item in For Sale Section and shouted 2nd dibs and said i would 'ave it so finds out today that said item was already sold..........WTF is that all about then?
So much for my word is my bond, obviously mine don't count for ****. :( :?

Oh well better luck next time.
Rant over.

:party0023:

Eh? So that means you were second in line if the sale fell through then, doesn't it?

forgot to mention the first guy/girl said no and was offered said item to which i said yes please.............
and then whammmy item goes some where else :?

dibs doesn't mean anything. the amount of times i have had people call dibs on things i had for sale only for them to change their mind, and if you look through half the for sale bits for people on here, similar stuff is going on.

I'm sure you are genuine enough but money talks.

(by the way, i had nothing to do with the OP's rant) :msn4:

Ah, I see. Yup you had dibs, defo.

dibs is a forum thing and from personal experience over many years its generally someone wanting something without the money to pay for it at the time....i`m sure thats not always true! anyhoo i bought a roof off a guy for a shed load of cash when three people had dibsed it...his response when i handed over the much sought after cash and received the 15 window deluxe roof was stuff em theyre time wasters...my tupence worth :msn4:

I find it annoying when people say "dibs on this,providing......" and then add list of proviso's like "providing it fits my car" or providing I can get the money etc.

Its frustrating if its the part you want & you are ready to pay.

I favour PM over forum thread replies - and I leave a mobile so it shows you are serious, find this approach is better, then you are talking and commit over the phone, someone rings you back from a PM and says "I want it - I can collect tonight" then you would take the offer rather than wait for forum responses, just my 2p

the pm does work best, depending on how quickly the forum decides to send it... iv waited 3 days for a pm to send before.
my attitude is if i say ill buy it iv committed myself so i will, if i miss out then hey, **** happens the van has been about for 40 odd years and god knows when/if it last had said part but whats a bit longer.

but I'm far too laid back.

Think PM's sit in outbox/sending until they are read by the other person, so you can see when your PM's have been looked at

If you want it, buy it. With cash money.

I have sooooooooo may 'dibs' on bits and bobs for sale and probably 50% don't buy.

Should I see an item I want, I offer to buy it and find out the persons details, if it needs a call then that sorts things out easily however for small stuff it is the usual 'I would like that, how do you want paying' either on thread or via PM. I then pay for the item and sort collection / delivery address. Simples

I am amazed in this day and age with so much technology why people do not pick up the phone and sort things quickly, why it needs 8 PM's can be beggars belief.

As a point in case, a mate has a pair of micro bus seats. He has planning for a house and wants to build, the seats are now in his way and he will skip them -they are far too good for that so I suggested a token £15 OR a case of beer (a case of good beer being about £15 if you see where I am going  ).

Anyways, put an ad up on this and another site last night and I have PM's wanting pics, dibs, I'll let you know this week, can you hold it for a couple of weeks. They are cheap and the description said it all in the ad.

The seats SHOULD have sold today, they are extremely cheap BUT they have not; the one person who called then broke down so they are just that little bit closer to landfill

I think the seats will be binned and to be honest it probably isn't worth the hassle of selling them even if he gets a case of beer.

My point is if you want it, call the person if needed (in the case of seats it was collection only), if you want an item and cannot collect then drop off a deposit or full payment and arrange a collection date (and keep to it).

Think why someone wants to sell something -they don't need it, or do need it but have no space or cash. Either way you look at it they want it gone and I suspect sooner than later ;)

Me, I have a mahoosive thread up at the moment and it will keep growing as I clear out 20yrs of parts; the more parts sell, the further I get into the units and more I can dig out. I am selling as I am fed up with renting storage units to the tune of £2.5k PA and am also looking to move on with my life -I have build a lot of cars and have other diversions these days.

Keep it simple, if you want it buy it

Dibs doesnt mean **** if you pay up and conatct the seller to say that you will have it then fine. A dibs means you have an interest. If the seller accepts that the "dibs" as a form of acceptance to pay then fair dues. But cash is king and commitment to by is what is needed. 8)

If you want something be clear.
"I'm interested" isn't commited enough.
Dibbs is cheeky like I'll think about it in my own time and let you know.
Best response is "I'll have it, let me know how to pay and I'll pay you now"
