Hi

I've just swopped the dynamo on a recently built engine as the original wasn't working, but the new dynamo appears to be too long and the belt doesn't line up. If i measure its 10mm longer than the old one! Any ideas?

i'm not aware of 2 different pulleys to match different dynamos! the one which fits (but doesn't work) is pt no 113903031P the the replacement which i had spare is pt no 211903031D.

oh what a pain in the arse, a bit of searching on the samba reveals that the longer dynamo is a high output 38A units only used on T2 from 71-73. but it need special backing plate, pulley and regular.

It's not uncommon for a dynamo just to stop working for no apparent reason, usually caused by some electrical 'event' elsewhere. Provided the windings have not been broken or damaged and / or not burnt out (identifiable by a strong smell) the dynamo can be restarted.
