Yeh just shove some crumpled up newspaper into the holes, then a bit of gaffer tape over them and slap some paint over it!

the old beam looks like a narrowed beam canidate!
the leaves are worth keeping as are the bearings if they are any good :D

i did think of the narrowed look, do you think i could sell it on ebay

As for the leaves well they are going into the new one , but one is broken :(
So if anyone has one of the small leaves they would like to sell , please let me know :)

pull the bearings and bin it otherwise some muppet will bodge it up, coat of hammerite and sell it on as rust free!

 just found out that the new beam is for a late bay
so iv now have to send it back and wait for a new early one
but that now gives me time to sort out the weilding i need to do :D

You did well to get that beast off your bus, was it difficult and how did you go about it??, i take it now that the beam is removed you will be repairing the chassis mounting points. This is something i may have to do in a couple of years time, would be interested to know how you get on matey. Keep us posted!

It was apig to get off. hitting the bugger with a lump hamer helped :?
The chassis mounting points look ok :? witch i dont understand . with the beam looking so bad.

I'll let you all know how it goes. just hope the snow stays away next week so i can get the work done,
i so want it low befor Big bang.

I bet no one ever greased it?? rotted from the inside out????

best of luck with the new one!!!

regards

marcher :D

The odd thing is is that the old beam was only rotten on the towers , the tubes are ok and full of greas :? .
I picked the new beam yesterday , The guy from bluebird is a top fella, i found one of the leave springs had brocken in the old beam and he gave me a part set :D
Well i have spent today getting all the muck off this one and painting it up.
Im very happy now, just the job of putting all the leave springs back in :?
and fitting it tomorrow :? :D
I'll post a pic when its done :D

I just read the first post and was wondering how to break the bad news to you gently glad you'd already found out so i didn't have too

have you found a decent early beam? i have one up for sale...

the reason the rot out like that is because no grease would never get into that area and very few people waxoil there buses properly... even fewer even think about treating the beam towers aswell

Thanks for the offer but iv got a rust free beam from Bluebird ,its a u.s inport one , spent yesterday getting all the muck off it and painting it , today was spent weilding on the camper and fitting the spring leaves ( what a bugger of a job they are to get in) all done now and if the weather tomorrow is like today then i should get the new beam on, then it's just the case of remembering were all the other stuff goes
