Hi there,

I have a nice 69 early bay with a Dormobile roof and the cooker behind the passenger seat.

There was a lounge interior fitted (it's now removed), but there was also a westfalia interior included in the sale.
I'm not sure, if that's the original interior.

Is there a specific M-code for a Dormobile version?? Or is there any other sign that this is a real Dormobile?
Here is my M-Code plate:

Originally she was Velvet Green, but now white and she has the option of the belly pans...

the M plate refer to how the vehicle left the VW factory.Dormobiles left as a Kombi, shipped to Folkstone, then over to Dormobile for conversion.
sparkywig's right.there should be a plate riveted (or evidence of one) to the dash.the plate has the build number stamped into it,however,Dormobile havn't any records of the build numbers (the company has had roller coaster fortunes over the years). see pic.........

Also, some Westy's did have the option of a Martin Walter (Dormobile) lifting roof from new.So it my be a Westy.....the cooker may be a PO addition.

Put your M plate details in the M plate decoder. VW-MPlate.com

If its a Dormy then the destination will be Ramsgate England even though its LHD.

I have seen LHD factory dormys. They are rare. Theres a couple in France. It was also possible for an owner to take their bus to the works themselves and have it converted.

The obvious way to tell if its a LHD dormy is by the interior units, since they cannot be swapped from one side to the other.

Also the cooker controls will be on the inside ;)

Looks like a Dormobile to me, is there a badge on the dash just inside the passenger door?
I took a look and there s no badge or there was no badge before.

Anyway, thanks for thinking along!
She's 100% Belgian!

Is there a difference between Westfalia and Dormobile in the finishing of the inner roof?
I have a "hardboard" roof lining and silent gliss curtain rails left + right (this is 100% original).
My thoughts were that westfalia never used hardboard in early bays, but birch ply wood for the roof lining.

It intrigues me :p

is there any evidence of gas bottle storage in the engine bay, opposite side to the engine? Dorms had a wooden recessed tray type thing with straps for the gas bottle.the gas line ran up through the boot with a tap just in from of the spare wheel (may be opposite on a lhd).
