Hi,
Has anyone ever taken apart the bottom section of the roof struts where the springs are? I want to clean this up but am concerned about undoing the nut & bolt that hold the springs? Are they under compression?
Thanks

Hi mate, I took mine apart to be powder coated,I found that once the struts where disconnected from the roof, the wanted to swing right back toward the roof hinge side of the bus, which released the pressure anyway so that when I removed the struts from the roof, the springs where relaxed anyway. I've not fitted them back up yet but when I do,I'm going to attach the spring, bolt the bottom down of the strut down to the roof with the arm over toward the hinge side of the bus,and then pull them back into position which will tension the spring again ,if you know what I mean.??!! all in all,I didn't find they where under that much pressure,as you'll have found out, no two Dormies are the same  hth

They do say on the dormi website that they should be fitted by experts due to the spring being under tension when you refit them.
Not having done this myself I don't know how difficult it would be.

they do! going to be a few months before I get round to this but I will report back once I've had a bash at it.

Springs!!!! christ,

Never even knew mine had any, just thought its a damn heavy roof with 2 telescopic poles!

I think ill need to have a look into this little one! :msn4:

they're the big round things at the base

Thanks for the pointers guys

I saw that about the springs in the Dormi catalogue & site which is why I wanted to check. my are currently dismantled so looks like it should be ok.
lovely. Not sure whether to powder coat them or just sand the rust/ grime off and clean them up...
hmmm

I din't powder coat the springs as I didn't want the coating to crack once the spring started working, however the spring brackets & telescopic struts are all done - yum yum!
