Hi everyone.

Just looking for a little advice on curing my sieve like dormobile roof. Its letting lots of water in and I'm wondering if there are any tricks to help keep it water tight.

I've ordered seals for the pop sun lights, new seal for the whole top and canvas water proofing. But I think there is some getting in around the fixed windows. Does anyone know of a way of protecting them a bit?

Many thanks.

Hi

window seal is the most likely had mine done now dry as a........ a plant glazing guy done mine

As posted. The windows are the most likely ingress point since the vents have raised edges and water will not enter unless the fibergalass is cracked.

Might be wise to also silicone sealant when bedding the new window seals in place (which is a two person job).

Brilliant. Thanks for that chaps. I guessed as much. I'll look at some new rubbers and go rom there. Appreciate it.

Good luck. Those windows are an absolute bitch to fit, much harder than the side windows IMHO :x

Did mine on my own......... ;)

Agreed with all of the above, new seals (from Dormobile) should sort it out.

What if there are spider web type cracks all over the fibre glass. What do you do then. I have that issue

They will need seeing to (take they are on the outside) - if they are not allowing water in now they will do in time (and cause the whole structure to be weak)
Look on youtube for fixing the spiders web type cracks (easy to fix, bit of making the cracks larger then filling and flow coat putting over)

I have a similar project to undertake in the winter but mine is a later Devon roof. My plan is to take out the polystyrene and support the top upside down but just support it on the two ends to allow a small amount of sag in the roof itself. I plan to install 1" celotex in 8" - 12" wide strips to help take out the curve along with some saw cuts but more importantly I plan to fibreglass the strips in along the long edge of the celotex to make three or four fibreglass 1" Z beams fixed all along the roof. I`m still not sure whether to add a 1" by 1/4" batten along the length as well, not just for extra rigidity but also so you have some fixing points if required at a later date. So that should really beef it up thermally and structurally. Then I`ll sort out my spiders webs both inside and out .

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,, That`s number 63 on the list of,,,,,, HOW MANY things to do  ;)
