Drivers door not opening from the outside

The door seems stuck shut although occasionally can be pulled open, which doesn't seem to be doing the handle much good due to the excessive force that needs to be applied.
The push button, it's a 68, seems to have no effect but the door release inside works fine. The U shaped catch isn't seized as far a I can tell from touching it.
Removing the trim doesn't show anything amiss so I've lubricated it for now and crossed my fingers.

Any ideas guys?

Take the mechanism out, give it a clean and a check over.

theres a small spring that returns the lock to the position to allow the outside handle to work correctly, its probably broken, pull the lock out and replace the spring

If the door is intermittently not opening I don't think the spring is broken. But once the mechanism is out I would swap them just in case.

My spring just went again in the drivers door, cba to strip it again so will live with it for a while lol
