What are the differences in the rear hubs?
Part numbers
211 501 254
211 501 254/B
211 501 254/C
Also would the stub axles all be different?

I need to replace the offside hub on my 68 camper.
I've found one for sale, hub complete with stub axle but the part number is 211 501 254/B for a 70 - 71
Would this fit my 68?
Would it be a straight swap or would the rear brake drum no longer fit due to the 70 - 71 having a different length stub axle?

It will fit, the hub assemblies (I've seen 5 different castings with slight differences) are the same throughout bay production.
Stub axles and the outer bearing changed August 1971 for 1972 model year with 5x 112mm PCD. The hubs are slightly different in that there is no outer circlip retaining the bearing.

You can swap stub axles by just changing the outer bearing with the stub axle.
Early 230mm stub axles take a 72od/35id/17 wide bearing (part no. 211-501-283)
Later 206mm stub axles take a 62od/35id/19 wide bearing (part no. 211-501-283D)

I'm currently running early hubs with later shorter stub axles. All I did was replace the outer bearing and fit the axles.

I’m just about to fit late bay axles to my 69 early bay so I can fit flat centre caps to my Fuch reps . I’ve been told by a chap in Holland who’s done the mod a few times in his shop that I only need to get my rear drums machined down on the nose by 24mm (the difference in axle length from early to late) The. Using my hub centric spacer it will recess the axle / nut enough to fit a flat cap . He didn’t say I had to change the outer bearing ? Have you done a slightly different mod ?
 
How did this work out in the end for anyone swapping to shorter late bay stub axles on their 68-70 for the purposes of fitting centrecaps?

I've put a few feelers out based on Creationblues latest update, but something said above has me confused as to why outer bearings would need swapping to LateBay too, if i have understood Sparkywigs comment above:-

I thought these bearings were pressed into the cast hub carriers, so if keeping my EB hub carriers i'd just be leaving the outer 72x35x17 bearings in place. A 62mm Late bay bearing would be obviously loose fitting into the EB hub carrier casting , as well as 2mm too thick (17mm vs 19mm)?

Nice one folks, thanks for confirming.
I had asked T2D a while back, who confused me further, saying that they thought the LB axle splines might be too short and not allow the EB drum to slide on all the way back to the bearings and spacers.
Glad that hasn’t been mentioned here, so assuming it’s not correct.

I have the CSP 5x130 drums at my workplace where fortunately our manual & cnc tool room will turn these down once i have the stub axles on hand to be certain of accuracy.

If I were to mock up the LB axles using some replacement early bay rear bearings while I’m at it, doing a dry run off the van to work out the maximum I can skim off drum snout, would I be sliding parts onto the late bay shafts in following order:-

Inner bearing @ 17mm thick, spacer (@ how thick please?), outer bearing @ 17mm thick, outer spacer on early bays?, drum, castle nut.

Apologies if I come across thick, thats confused me, if I leave off the last spacer ( after the outer bearing / before the drum) would that not allow the drum to move too far inward and crash onto the backplate?
Does the grease seal not run on that outer spacer?
