I've just bought an alternator conversion kit. On the fan side, i have stripped off all components from dynamo to transfer. There is then a spacer which separates the fan 'hub' from the dynamo shaft. It seems to me this is needed also to transfer as this is what the whole fan assembly torques up from? Do i definately need it? How the hell do i get this off? Or can i buy another one? (why didn't it come with the kit?)

Also, the original bits all seem to fit the new generator, ie pulley wheel, fan plates, which seem much more sturdier, should i use the new ones or the old ones, they're all in good nick? They generator stand/oil filler seems remarkably the same too. Am i missing soomething here???

i fitted a kit about 6 months ago, and im pretty sure said spacer was already on the alternator.maybe a bit of heat would get the one off the dyno.as for the other bits, i know what you mean about the fan covers. i used the new ones, as they were shiney! , but on mine the stand was definately different.it has a cut out in the front to accomodate the bigger diameter of the front of the alternator. i also ended up having to get more of the big washers on the fan end to get it to torque up, and had to make a carb spacer as the trottle linkage fouled on the side of the alternator(pict 34 carb)found it a bit frustrating to be honest.
