Hi all, I'm new to this forum, used to be an early bay owner, currently a 62 beetle owner but wanted your experiences with regards to garaging your type 2 bays. Looking to get me one soon but I want to garage it but not sure if it will fit...

seen conflicting dimensions for the bay on line so anyone out these garage their bay in a stock garage (if there is such a thing).

length & with should be ok, its just the height clearance that seems tight. My garage dimensions are:

L: 5000mm
w: 2030mm
H: 2000mm

Now when I compare this to some of the dimensions of bays I have found online they all seem within tolerances, however, where the electric up n over door goes up, halfway up its lowest point at the full length of a bus (4505mm) is 1980mm which seems to be the average height of a bay.

Bay dimensions online:
L: 4505mm
w: 1720mm (probably not inc wing mirrors)
H: 1980mm-2100mm (pop top)

My thoughts though are that the 1980mm average height of a bay is at its peak probably 500mm or so from the back of the van & as the roof tapers lower I might just have the clearance I need.

Obviously a lowered bus would help...!

Your experiences, opinions please..

Mine is lowered, and is just under 6ft at its highest point. Goes into my parents single garage just fine, although some designs of garage door make it more difficult than others.

Also, if your drive/garage has a change of slope, it'll mean you need more clearance. :)

I replied on VZI but I'll put the same on here as it might help people searching in the future:

My Westy tintop is standard height and just about fits under a roller door with an opening 1930mm high. There's very little clearance though. I definitely wouldn't get a poptop in which is one of the reasons I bought a tintop.

Tintops also fit under the height restriction bars of all French supermarket carparks too

You could always lower it if it won't fit and/or deflate the tyres when moving it in and out...

Air suspension might be the rich man's solution

Was a massive pain in my arse, and a shed load of cash. Had to remove the up and over door still wouldnt fit, had it lowered around 4'' but soon got fed up with lifting the door off every time.
Purchased a roller door in the end as I hated it being outside in the rain so money well spent.
As you can see I still have to remove the vent

The end result, paid evil bens to lower it but fitted the garage door myself with the help of a friend. Total cost of just under £800.
Hope this helps answer your question.

Thanks for the info, can you let me know the height of your garage opening please.

Thanks

Had/having a real pain with this also. Doing resto at moment on a Tin Top but when we got her she wasn't on the running gear. Now it is and unless we deflate the tyres we can't get her out of the garage

We have managed to get it nearer by doing a mild lower - 1 Spline rear and Front adjusters but still not quite there

However, there is no interior, gearbox or engine in it - so we are hoping these will push her under the bar :|

When it's so close even a change of wheel/tyre/shocker size can mess it up. Ultimately it might mean a new garage door assembly if necessary :(
