Early vs late

Hi all is the early front grille different to the late front grille? I've just fitted a front panel an tried my early grille but it seems to sit proud of the panel itself? Seems like the screw tabs ain't set as far back as the original ones??
Any help please?

Yes they are different .. if its repro front panel it will possibly need a later grill too..

I did manage to retain my '72 grill with a new panel but I had to hack the living daylights out of the mesh panel that sits behind it to get it to fit properly.
