Guys,
I am really new to Earlybays and this forum, so please accept my appologies if this has been covered. Is there a Wiki page for all the terms used when talking about early bays. It would be really helpful to store tips and advice, explain engine codes, gearbox, technical details, recommended upgrades, wheel/tyre combinations that are "known good" for certain ride heights/widths etc... in a format that could be updated as time passes.

This of course is for my benefit and from my limited observation of this site. So far I have found it a wealth of knowledge and get a good feeling from its members. Keep it up :)

Jon

Hi Jon,

I thought a similar thing when I first got a van a couple of years ago. I went as far as buying a domain, setting up the wiki and then I got sidetracked :) My intention was to have common problems, terminology and that kind of stuff on it.

If there's interest and it wouldn't tread on anyones toes then I could look into it again.....

Fair play to you if you do, but there is a search button at the top of the page which gives answers to pretty much everything. And if it can't be found ask the question and someone more knowledgable than myself will answer it, which is how a forum works! :D

Yeah that was part of the reason for me getting sidetracked with other stuff :) I think a wiki offers a different approach though, when I was starting out I found searching harder than I do today as I didn't really have any background knowledge to put things in context. A wiki gives the opportunity to have a more structured layout so you could, for example, click through to "engine" and drill down that way. Or even just browse around for more general knowledge rather than having to search out the info through the noise of a forum.

It makes it easier to find out about things you know a bit about but not enough to get an accurate search if you see what I mean :)

Jon,

I'll put some thought into it although it'll require support from the community to update it and pass on their knowledge :) If there's interest I'll take it further. The last thing I want to do is take anything away from the forum as it's a fantastic bunch of people and a great source of info, I think the wiki will just condense facts, known problems and solutions etc into a quicker to use resource. Glad to hear other peoples thoughts on it though!

Absolutely, I know it is a huge task, but I think the end results would be so very useful for all. I am getting the impression that this place is full of really helpful and knowledgeable people so would not want to detract from that at all.

Thanks for the consideration.

something like the vw-resource.com site would be cool, but for campers, with a wiki input jobber. i'd be happy to input a few bits and bobs- not that i know what i'm doing :p

im quite happy to set it up and host it for you. Either with your own personal domain name or you can have a subdomain on our website ie. wiki.earlybay.com or similar.

Let me know what software you want installed, joomla, phpbb, wordpress etc.

I recommend joomla then you can have an 'open source' site where you can categorize/edit/publish posts from other contributors and order them into different subjects and topics.

i can create a template for you very very quickly as well.

Johnny,

Thanks for the offer. I have my own server that I was planning on using, I find it easier with shell access so I can modify stuff quickly using vi (sadist, I know :)) but I may take you up on the offer depending on how things go. I have the domain earlybaywiki.com but having wiki.earlybay.com linked through would tie in nicely. I'll probably drop you a PM about it all once I've put some more thought into it.

First contributer excellent :) I find the vw-resource useful so something along those lines but more flexible would do the job nicely
