This new bus of mine has electronic ignitoin, which is fine, but ive got a couple of issues....

1. The starting procedure on this particular set up is not great - ive got a spade clip to connect up for the ignition to go on, then i have two flick switches on the dash, left one goes up and then i flick the right one up to fire it... talk about laborious!!! The original key/barrel is still there as i need to use the key to unlock the steering lock - so ive got 4 steps to start up! How easy is it to put all of this back to starting on the key???

2. Ive read that if the starter is left on too long - it can burn out the system very quickly? Should i think about binning the whole set up and going back to points??

I want this bus to be as little hassle as possible, and i get the feeling that all these switches and procedures will just lead to headaches and problems :(

Sounds like you have a dead ignition switch and someone has wired up the two switches to bypass the switch. So you need to get yourself a working switch and simply go back to a stock set-up. The electronic ignition will work perfectly well from the new ignition switch and will be more reliable than points. Pertronix 1 Ignitors will burn out if you leave the ignition on for more than 10 minutes without the engine running. Ignitor 2 modules don't do this.
