Hi
Can any one decipher my engine code 126-092296 it has a green coloured block and its a twin port thats all i know
any help please
oh there are three more numbers stamped on the block they look like this
4
6
97

Are you sure that is the engine code? It should start with a letter prefix. Where are you reading those digits from? Doesn't seem right to me.

stamped on the block under the oil cooler cant find any others
am i looking in the right place ??????

This may help you http://www.volksworld.com/tech-guides/technical-information/volkswagen-engine-codes/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Im new to the vw seen, the engine number is under generator pedestal
has any one any ideas? looked on all the sites that quote the lists of engine numbers "No Luck"

126 is a 1600 industrial stationary engine, will work fine in a bus or beetle despite many so called experts saying that it's got the wrong camshaft etc etc.......... ;)

yes i speak from experience.

Ok oorwullie your in my will, when i go to the big bay scrapyard in the sky the engine is yours
just a few things before ascend to a greater place, will i have to change anything on the engine ie flywheel, cam shaft, carb, etc etc
by the way its a twin port, 1600 i think, is there any way of finding out the cc and the year from the engine number

Thanks

if its a "Dual-Port" then if NOT an industrial engine........

They only cme in SINGLE port......

As I said I am 99% sure its just a crappy "Re-con" lump from a british company :)

i didn't say that it was an original twin port industrial unit, just that that it is/was originally an industry motor.

as you mention, it is quite possibly one of them green recons that used to be plastered over the back pages of volksworld mag . or maybe someone just painted it to try and pass it off as a recon or just to be "cool". ;)

i doubt if we will ever know the exact history of it other than that it almost certainly started it's working life in a swiss or german waterpump/compressor/generator etc.

they were (and still are) frequently converted to twin port with new heads.

there's always several in the small ads here, some reasonably priced and plenty way over the top.
