Hi
Just wondered if anybody has come across this before?
I recently done some work to one of my brake calipers as it had partially seized.
Once I'd freed up the caliper, put it back together and bled the system.
Now the engine seems to stall when the brakes are applied?
Any ideas?
It was all working fine before I removed the caliper.
Thank you
Mike

Have you checked your vaccum pipe from the engine to the servo?

Yes checked that, looks ok
All jubilee clips tight, blew down vacuum line and appeared to be leak free?

If you disconnect the vacuum hose from the intake manifold and block the port (you will loose the servo assistance) does it still stall when braking?

Couldn't wait
Just took the servo non return valve out
Checked it was operating ok
Then fitted it back to front to block the hose and no stalling when braking
Fitted it the correct way and it started stalling when the brakes where applied
So where does this leave me?
Are there any more checks I can do to check the servo diaphragm?
All I did was change a caliper?
Seems weird that the servo has just packed up coincidentally?
Any advice is much appreciated
Mike

I'm having similar issues... Suspect my servo has died. Mine was dying when u pressed brake pedal some time ago then seemed to stop. Recently someone said they didn't think my servo was working due to pressure required. Just put a new vacuum valve on and the length of hose that joins just after rear wheel. Now I'm back to it stalling again when u press brakes!

I tried the starting with foot on brake pedal and no movement. Someone mentioned this was a sign the servo had died?!

It could be a bad earth, especially if its a westy. Some westys stall when running and put into reverse due to the reversing lights, but i have also seen this on a poor earth on the brake lights? maybe worth checking

I had the same problem mate when braking. Checked non return valve etc. Ended up being servo. Fitted a Brazilian VW one with slight nod to mounting bracket on my weedeater beam. Cost under £100.

Sharman... Was access ok with just a trolley/axle stands? I'd read it was hard work and worth just getting a garage with a lift to do it...
