Engine won't play nice

3-4 weeks ago the engine was running fine(not started it up over this time),tryed starting it today but wouldn't have it.So i put a few drops of fuel in the carb and it fired up ok,I kept the revs on for a min or two to warm it up.But when I let of the revs it cuts out (won't tick over).
Started it back up and it ran for about a min with the revs on then cut out.Now all it will do is start up run for a min with the revs on and cut out,no spluttering or popping it just cuts out dead.When its running with the revs on it sounds spot on .I got the wife to start the engine and I held it on the revs with the carb so I could have a closer look/listen but it still just cut out dead.Started it up again and blipped the accelerator on and off and theres a clicking noise coming from the fuse box and the generator light is on constant :? then it cut out Any ideas to whats going wrong please.........Dave

Check for loose connections at the coil, fuel cut off valve one the carb and on Generator, I would also check points gap if points fitted.

Think you've got it,Electric cut off Valve. Well I think thats it ,With the ignition switched on and the wire removed, this should Click when the wire is re attached.
Well mine does nowt,Removed the valve from carb and tryed it again and it only works every now and again.Ill pick a new one up and give it a whirl Cheers......Dave
