Christmas being around the corner thought id get sorted for the future travel, services and breakdowns. So to set the scene, your going on a long road trip through the gobi desert and you need an essential tool set what would you take as a minimum? I have been a put in the garage man but from the new year things are going to change, got my books sorted

Leathermans or multitool with pliers.
Set of metric combination spanners.
Spark plug socket with 3/8 extension and decent 3/8 ratchet (Facom ones have been pretty good to me).
Couple of 3/8 metric sockets to suit the common sizes (8mm, 10mm, 13mm, 17mm, 19mm, 17mm hex for gearbox plugs,I think?)
X-style Wheel brace
Crimping pliers.
Couple of different size flat head and posi screwdrivers.

In addition to this I carry a set on bondhus Allen keys because I've got a few bolts/set screws on my bus that requires them.

Consumables are:
Cable ties
Couple of common bulbs
Fuel hose clips
Few sizes of jubilee clips (mainly a just in case one of the push fit aeroquip oil line fittings on my bus fails).
Fuses
Spare coil
Spare points & condenser.
Length of few thicknesses of wire
A few crimp connectors of different sizes & styles
Electrical tape

Think that's about it for me..

Proper sized screwdriver and sensible sized heads for use on most VW stuff.

Miles better than the crappy stubby ones and more usable than the little head ones.
