Just put the bay on the brake rollers at work and three out of the four brake drums are warped. So I decided to ring VW Heritage to find out how much for full brake kit and just had a fright. over 430 squids!

Does anyone know of any other suppliers that would be able to supply all drums ,cyinders and soes along with brake service kits?

My bus is a 1970 Campermobile drums all round.

Would it work out cheaper to convert the fronts to discs and calipers and would i need to fit a servo?

Also whats the best standard make of exhaust box that you have come across? Stainless or mild steel.

All advice will be greatfully received.

Thanks

alright dude,

not sure on the exhaust q, but as for your brakes, i find heritage a bit pricey for things like that, try machine7 or gsf, gsf always do discount for club members and i usually come out of there with with stuff for a good price. And machine 7, who ever i speak to there, they always seem to know a hell of alot, and have given my advice that has saved me time and money.

My experience with heritage always results in "sorry we dont have that in stock" also try cool air, all of there parts are very good, and they seem to do good prices on service type stuff.

First thing Id do is dismantle what you have and inspect, check the condition of linings/shoes and see what a clean and adjustment brings.
If the drums are all warped then maybe an engineering place can re skim them for you? If you do have to replace, then you may only need drums and shoes (maybe just do the worst pair first?) ... the cylinders should be fine if they were before.

Exhaust wise. Stainless is nicest - Bluebird do good ones. :)

If you've got brake rollers at your work your probably elligable for trade at GSF
http://www.gsfcarparts.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; talk to them really nicely and you'll get decent discount and they'll send them out in a van.

Ive a full set up for the front - £75 both sides!

sorry guys been away for a bit , the drums are defo warped as they have severe ovalation over 30% fluctuation on 3 out of 4 drums when on the rollers, I have spoken to a chap up north and he has a full set of drums brand new for £39.00 each. Juts seems a waste to do drums and shoes and not replace cylinders at the same time. If one blows I would have to soes and cylinders anyway.

GSF were on back order for drums!

Austin The Exhaust muffler has now been purchased and will be fitted soon, thanks for the tip on Machine 7 very helpfull!

will think about your offer on the font brake assemblies Clem are they for a 70 or are they earlier?
