A stock bus one or a slightly modified beetle one with twin pipes ;)

whats the mod loxy?... thinking about getting one of them

I believe its just a case of making the tail pipes point down slightly so that they clear the bumper so just a bit of light adjustment with a suitable weight attached to a bit of wood  - the beetle exhaust is supposed to be more free flowing than the bus exhaust.
I'm pretty sure there are a couple of people on here that run them - there was a thread a while back - possibly fraggle(???)

CSP python......... but they cost more than to lower the bus

Cheers dude thats what i wanted to hear :)

This guys got one fitted with bus tail pipes "Can't remember where I got pic from".The only problem would be fabricating a right hand mount for the tail pipe

I wouldn't go for the CSP Python, they aren't too good on slammed buses...nor is a mondo...

I'm going to put the old quiet pack on while I get a muffler and stuff fabricated. At least I have a fully merged header now on the bus.

that sucks adamski............ so the question is why is there all this hype about the python being good for lowered buses when it obviously isn't?

I spoke with Machine7 and they said it is not designed for seriously lowered buses, as that is not what the german market go for.

also I spoke with a chap who brought one and had to modify the hell out of it.

The best exhaust for a lowered bus is an A1 Sidewinder, but it will only fit if you don't have an engine support bar. I think all early bays do, except the earlyest of early. I know this because I brought one all the way over from the states, only for it not to fit!!! Lucily sold it on, as it was brand new.

OK not looking like much choice then, deffo not putting a stock exhaust on, too restritive. Been looking at my quiet pack and realised its only the box that is lower than the exchangers so might modify it by easing the flange up a bit, so raising the box up aswell, this looks like it might give a few inches more clearance

Theres also a guy on volkszone fpr<something>e (or similar  ) who makes stainless stock style exhausts that can be made in various combos to fit strokers etc so I'm sure they can be made less restrictive as well & will alst forever ;)
Will have a look for his thread.....

What about this beetle one from JK?

Not sure if it's standard bore or more free flowing or what tho...

I'm doing it like this for my new engine, the only problem is that the diameter of a beetle tip is 35mm and most bus tailpipes are 32mm, but i think from a later 1600 they were 35mm.
I found myself 2 NOS tailpipes (35mm) and now i have to make 2 special brackets.

I tried to buy one of those stainless exhausts off that chap on VZI, managed to get in touch with his parents who told me that he did not make them any more. I have a 1600 beetle engine on my bay, the tail pipes clear the bumper and the exhaust is tucked well up.

if the engine is stock, then put a stock exhaust on, it should suit the engine best and create the right amount of back pressure.
