Few questions from a newbie

Hi all I am new to these forums and earley bays so please excuse the questions
Apart from the obvious different front indicators and rear lights what other differences , cosmetically and mechanically are there between the earley bay and post 72 models ?
Also are spares/panels more expensive and harder to source for early bays ?
Last thing does anybody know the overall height of a standard early bay?

Front n rear arches n rear air vents(for engine) i think.
Probably more that i forgott :mrgreen:
oh and drums all round on the 68 to 70 models.

How do the arches differ ?

The fronts on the Earlies are flush with the body ware the lates have a protruding lip.
I think the rears on a late are more flared than the Earlies.
Different bumpers also.

Last thing does anybody know the overall height of a standard early bay?

With or without a pop-top...

They do vary significantly, I suppose you are wondering about the garage height and the only advice I have is replace the door with a roller door now (My bus is sat on the drive with an up and over that just will not let it through, and I lowered front and rear but will not sacrifice the stance for the garage height.)

Go early, the low lights and rear vents create a much lower and squat stance that IMHO looks so much better than the later bay with the higher indicators that make it look taller and narrow.

The early bay also has the bigger front badge, early bay also has a much more integrated front bumper with the door step and the 1968 also has the push button split type door handles.

Yes I am still looking but restricted abit because of my budget of £4000, so looking for a rolling project really as I dont think I will get a decent one for that price

4K will get you a bus no problem. Just dont buy the 1st one you see. Go for a US import get slightly more for your money.

But most important an earlybay will get you access to the best website for VWs Earlybay.com, so don't go later than '72 and if you can get an import.
