Fitting new JK steering wheel

I'm have a problem fitting a new JK steering wheel to my crossover. I've fitted one of the Bluebird custom head bearings and now trying to fit a new steering wheel. I've positioned it over the serrated spindle and no matter how hard I hit the central boss of the wheel with a collar I can't get it to drift fully onto it. I tried heating up the wheel with a hair drier and cooling down the spindle with ice which helped a little but not totally. I'm sure if I keep hitting it hard enough it will go all the way home but what am I likely to damage in the process? The steering box?

Most likely the wheel or the splines in the wheel hub, when I replaced mine with a woodrim one it was a tight fit but not that tight are you sure it is the right fitting?
 
Cross-overs use the early bay wheel not the late one that JK sell. The splines are different. They are not interchangeable however hard you hit them. And yes you will damage your steering box. I may have a couple of early bay steering wheels in the shed - are you looking for a perfect one?
 
I'm interested in this as I just got one of these steering wheels as a gift :)

I've heard that getting the wheels on and off can be a **itch of a job.

I saw this on You Tube which might help. (Think it's a late bay though)

Found out today from JK that they sent me the wrong wheel so I'm glad I stopped belting it when I did!

They are sending me a replacement that will (supposedly) fit so I will see what turns up. If it's not a exact replica I'll certainly be after one of your originals and perfect if possible.

I did have a job getting the original off. It was damaged to I was able to be fairly rough with it and used a puller in the end.
