Evning all.

Im a keen Sea Fisherman (As a hobby) and go as often as possible but being as i live in the middle of England i dont go enough :( .
So was thinking of taking up Fly fishing aswell.
Just want some reccomendations on Rods, Reels and general tackle etc.....
Where to buy and what Rod and Reel youd reccomend.
I dont want an Argos jobby, i want something half decent that will last me.
Im hoping to go pretty regularly as i reccon im gonna get right into it.
Any reccomendations would be welcome.
Can you get a decent Centre pin in LHD  as im left handed?

Cheers

Rich

I do a bit of fly fishing (nowhere near as much as I should given I have 1/2 mile of the River Usk in my back garden ;) ) and I'm also left handed.
Theres no problem getting hold of a reel, you just get the line wound on the other way round!
I have a Greys GRX rod & reel that I have had for a couple of years, its a 5/6 weight suitable for fishing in medium size rivers, you may want something more heavyweight depending on where you are going to be fishing (which will be the major factor in the selection of your kit). Its certainly a good way to spend a summers evening ;)

MMMmmm
Been having a look around, a little baffled :!:
Im looking at Trout fishing mainly.
Just had a Google and more confused as i was before.
My sea rod is a 2 piece 12 footer. I prefer less sections as carrying (Car) space isnt an issue and i believe you get a better curve and more sensitive feel fron a 2 piece rather than 3.
Im looking at Daiwa at the mo and probably what i want to go for (Brittish made).
Whats the best type of reel seat? Screw or the sliding type?

Rich

Greys fly rods awesome!
I fish Rutland with a Greys 10.5ft 8 weight rod
Then you need a few lines, floater, intermediate, sinker etc....
Any other questions just shout

These chaps are also super helpful. Always buy my stuff mail order from them

Whats your opinion on rod choice? see questions above
What do you go for?
Will do if i have anymore questions, and i will!

Rich

Greys have a fabulous reputation in fly circles.
Daiwa, not really as their strength always been course.

This is a great rod and reel deal. I have the xflite and have been well chuffed with it.

If you plan on fishing reservoirs I'd go for a 10 or 11ft 8 weight.
As for rod sections, majority of fly rods are now 3 or 4 pieces and still give a fabulous feel as they are soooooo lightweight.

Give Evans a call and I bet they'd do a deal involving some lines also.

Nice.
Added to favourites.
There will be questions. Il use this thread so keep an eye out  .

but its not as easy as it looks ;)

There's a good book on fly fishing by J R Hartley that might br worth a read!

Right, went looking at Rods N Reels today

Got a Reel question for you.
Had a reel in my hand and wound the drag right off (was totaly free wheeling). Then turned the adjuster a couple of clicks and the reel started to drag one way but not the other.

When the reel is fitted to the rod it would drag when taking line from the reel and not on the retrieve (with the handle on the right).

So when the reels fitted the other way (handle on the left) threre would be drag on the retreve and not when taking line.

The man in the shop (A nice bloke that wanted to help) said the reel was for left and right handed.
But when i noticed this drag thing he had gone so couldnt ask.

Thing is i didnt tighten the adjuster further than a few clicks so didnt notice weather the drag even'd out both ways.

Is this reel a LHD/RHD or both? Little confused.

Nice reel and want to get it but if its no good, its no good.

Cheers all

Rich

P.S J R Hartley???? Funny Fuckers

I am right handed and turn the reel with my left hand I never have much if any drag on and tend to use my hand on the rim of reel. I went fishing with me mate once and he forgot his reel. He used my sinking line and stuffed it in his pocket. He had a great day.

You can usually switch them over from left to right handed use no problems. But like above, the reel is mainly just used for line storage so wouldn't really worry about it too much!
