For sale is ‘Monty’:

1969 VW Panel van - Early bay
Left Hand Drive -
Engine 1600CC
1 year MOT (8/2015) – Advisories: rear tires worn, CV boots cracked and play in the steering wheel.

Imported in 2009ish by Midland early bay, from the USA. The van received an overhaul, disc brakes up front, dropped spindles, horseshoe plates on the rear and Black Radar wheels. Also high brightness headlights were fitted.
In 2011 to 2012 this was sold on to a family who sorted out a rusty lee rock n roll bed.
In September ish 2012 – December 2013 ish it was owned by a Panel van enthusiast who put on a custom silver logo badge made for the rear - which states 1969 Panel.
He had a custom screen cover and a buddy box with a Sailor Jerry log made.
He stripped the van out - bagged all the insulation that was in there, and decked the van out in wood cladding. It’s not a professional job! But looks homely and is nice to camp in. The front two seats and door cards were upholstered in red.

The engine when cold runs lumpy for around 3 minutes, after this it is fine. It looses a bit of oil. The starter motor sticks briefly when starting.

The bodywork is rot free but does show every bump and scratch of his life (not like some vans filled with filler and painted shiny) this a 100% original, genuine van. Van is near on mint underneath and chassis is solid and sound.
It has an awesome ratty look with surface rust. Only front was over painted and a bit at the rear end. There are rust spots on the front bay window though.

Everything what should work does even the heater, which is rare (even got a heat back window with original knob). There are no extra holes in the padded dash and the electrical wiring is pretty much original – only a stereo with speakers was fitted.
All the doors line up perfect with new rubbers all round. It has a sliding door with window to make changing lanes safer and let more light in when camping (original door is included).
Only bits that were welded on the van are the driver side cab floor, a tiny bit in the engine bay and the towbar was welded on. Also an additional front bar and notch was installed (I think to accommodate a different steering box).

This van is sold as a rolling project (needs a bit of work) at 7800.- GPB
It is locate in St Andrews, Fife - message me to arrange viewing and gossiping.
