I'm looking for a new fridge for my van - I'm quite tempted by the JK 12/240v one at £249, I'm not planning to have gas in the van so 12/240 is all I need.

http://www.justkampers.com/just-kampers-motorhome-camper-fridge-with-12v-240-capability.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Has anyone had any experience of this fridge? I've read a few stories of them working fine on 240v but not lasting long with 12v - the topics all seem quite old so not sure they refer to this latest fridge as there seems to have been a few models in the past.

Should I be looking at any other fridges, there aren't many around in this price bracket, the next step up seems to be the RM123 at £375-400

Thanks in advance.

Unless you buy a compressor fridge none of them will last long on 12V.

Thanks for the response, will look into the Compressor Fridges, any (on a budget!) recommendations?

not cheap but fit nicely in your sink cabinet

WHS. We have both fitted the Waeco CR50, slightly different approach bettween us, nice fridges, will last for ages unlike the other absorption type or even the peltier element type coolers. The Waeco is a proper fridge, just like the one at home, just a bit smaller and running a energy efficient variable speed Danfoss compreser, which i think you can adjust to run at a constant low speed which would save even more electric, i have a 210aH set up waiting to fit, will run this fridge for a week withough charging nearly, so a normal large leisure battery with a split charge system would be very good.
More details on my install on my gallery thread.

Though if you just use a elecric hook up on site, then maybe a more conventional cheaper fridge would do what you need? I wanted to be completly off grid when camping, so this suits my needs

Cheers!

Thanks again for the replies.

I did start looking at the Coolmatic range and have added it to my eBay lists to keep an eye out.

I don't see us doing a lot of camping off grid so in the mean time will order the JK fridge to see us through the next year or so and see how it goes - I will be building a unit to house it so I will ensure this can take alternative fridges too...
