Hi,

I'm a bit stuck so any help would be very much appreciated.

My '71 Westy used to have a spare wheel mounted on the front panel using the standard wheel mount and so has four holes drilled in it. Its in for paint at the moment and its almost ready for primer :D I've decided to put the big chrome badge on the front and keep the spare somewhere else BUT.... problem is that the badge is currently out of stock with suppliers and the painter doesn't want to get held up.

Can anyone tell me if the mounting holes for the big chrome badge are the same as the mounting holes for the spare wheel carrier?

I've just replaced my spare carrier with a badge and the holes were an exact match. My carrier had 6 holes, but the middle 2 are hidden by the badge. :)

Cheers - that's good news. My PO never bothered with the middle two drillings which might account for the state of my front panel

I also found a really good diagram with measurements of where the holes should be. Think it was on VZi, but can't seem to find it now.... :(

Ah, cos it was the Samba, that's why :)

Thanks to you both for all the information.

Did you use plastic plugs to mount the badge and if so, can you remember the approximate diameter of the plugs (reason I ask is that my front panel had threaded inserts for bolts which were roughly 7mm in diameter)

Yeah mine had captive nuts too all I did was fill the holes I wasn't using with panel bond sealer then bonded the badge on with the 4 lugs with sealer in the holes so if I want to change bak I can do

Hope that's helps an makes sense
