Front sway bars

my early has no front sway bar is this normal or do they come with sway bars? More importantly do late bar bars fit? Mines a 1970 i realise 1 68 might be different?

Has your bus been lowered and if so how much? If it's around a 2 spline (at the rear) drop then it's likely the PO removed the front anti roll bar as they tend to point straight at the ground at this height. I tore mine off because of this and even if you are lucky enough to keep it in place when you hit a big bump they make an awful racket as they drag on the tarmac.

If this is the case you can still fit one but you need to flip it over and mount it to the top of the torsion link (I have done this). You also need to remove all of the bump stop mounts to give clearance for this configuration.

Thanks for the reply , it has been lowered with drop spindles so about 3 inches , DO uyou think normal sway bar config will work ?

I'm not very experienced with dropped spindles but my understanding is that the lowering is done by flipping the spindles and effectively raising the stub axle rather than the torsion arms. If that is the case, and bearing in mind you have only dropped 3 ", I would imagine a bar should fit without problems.

Could you maybe post some pictures of your torsion arms?

It will have had one as standard but will have been removed when the spindles went on.

It shouldn't need to be removed.

I've got an anti-roll bar on my van which has a mildly narrowed front axle and drop spindles. Fitting it made a big improvement in the handling

I agree, couldn't wait to get a replacement on when I broke mine. It was like driving a barrel of water around without it.
