I think you'll find that it is (and has been since Thursday evening, as promised)...

The speaker connectors are just standard 4mm 'banana' connectors available from places like Maplin/RS etc (or you can buy them on ebay for a few pence from China). There's no need to connect any sort of amp.

The maximum output power of an Emden is about 5W, so if you're looking for some 'serious sounds', the only real route is to modify the internals of the Emden to incorporate more powerful amplifier circuitary. I've seen this done, but it's not a cheap option! Don't forget these radios were designed 45 years ago and only intended primarily for listening to standard radio broadcasts.

As these radios are MONO, they are only designed to work with one speaker and this has to be impedence matched to terminate the output circuit. You can basically use any 4Ohm or 8Ohm speaker. You can use a million Watt speaker if you like, but there's no point as the radio will only output a few Watts. If you want to run two speakers, I've done this in the past and it should be ok providing the total resistance of the speakers is round about the 4-8 Ohms as spec'd for a single speaker. (ie: using the // resistance equation: RT = 1 / ((1 / R1) + (1 / R2) + (1 / R3)), you can use two 8 Ohm speakers in parallel).
