very very interested, what year is on the westy id plate please and take it its for early bay and would you take 100 of the queens finest for it.

jon.

not wishing to cast doubts on your authenticity mate, but as far as i know westfalia never made a universal bay and beetle towbar. that thing your offering is like nothing i've ever seen. a clear close up of the ID plate would be of great benefit to me in establishing the facts.

thanks.

no probs, i was told it could be used on both beetles and buses, so you may be able to help me on that one

will post the id numbers up

pic is a bit rubbish

i don't doubt the authenticity of the plate, it's genuine westfalia for some sort of towbar but i'm pretty sure westfalia never made that towbar or if they did it's certainly never been TüV approved in germany for a 1976 bay bus.

i have a couple of late bay westfalia towbars fitted and pics of plate somewhere too.

get back to ya when i have more constructive info.

i think typ should be 321 225 and prüfzeichnung should be 3189.

also westfalia late bus towbars were all rated at max 1800 kg.

i'll see if i can testify with pics later, me daughter wants her laptop now.............

ps, maybe yer camera has a setting for closeups.mine has a flower symbol.

typ should be 221 125 and prüfz 3169.

this is for late bay, the 2 or 3 different types for earlier models will have different numbers.

there was one like you have recently on ebay uk described as " will fit all vw westfalia models"..............

years ago i bought a towbar for a T3/T25 bus , not wesfalia but a good name and simiar to westie solid construction and it looked right. later turned out to be several inches narrower and was actually for a 77-81 scirocco......

i still have it despite world wide adverts. who wants to tow a trailer with scirocco?

more recently a mate got given a towbar allegedly for a late bay, at a glance i could see it wasn't for a bus. turned out to be for a jetta. at least it was free:lol:

Not liking your approach here but you are correct its the tow bar for an Audi 100 i believe...

The type no. starts with 305 - Audi.

321 - VW and the second part for an earlybay would/should be 022
073 for a late (think crossover as well)

Thanks aaron, ebay and other threads ammended accordingly

i misunderstood what i was told

that obviously must mean i was trying to con people

*rolleyes not aimed at u aaron

Not at all but there are ways and means, I believe he was a little mistaken, you did mention he was wrong but offered no evidence in support, when he appeared to be going from a friends input, I too would take the word of someone I know and trust over that of a perfect stranger.

It may well be that this item was fitted to a bus even if it was not designed as such, thus owing to confusion (but I only summise).

A PM would have been a much favoured route IMO and far less confrontational.

And too be honest the attack on VZI (for that was plainly what it was as you are undoubtedly aware) just highlights my reasons for not using the forum.

I can remember the good old VW days, friendly meets and people, the reason I like EB.....(maybe I am wearing the proverbial rose tinted, and it never actually was that way, I dunno getting old, sank a few since then...)

aaron, yes i can understand your reasoning there but would suggest that only someone with absolutely no idea could even consider that this may have been fitted to a bus.

as for me offering no evidence, i actully went out to my bus in the dark and made a note of the data on my genuine westie towbar. that information was misunderstood possibly due to a full stop instead of a comma.

my "attack" on vzi was prompted by what i took to be a blatant attempt to pass this off as for a late bay after i'd told him here that it wasn't that at all.

and i'd also purely by chance seen the same item on ebay.uk a few weeks before described as "fits all westfalias"..................

and yes you're right about the good old days being good and gone. that's why they're good. because they're gone.(loudon wainright ).

merci, danke and ciao.
