Van failed the mot today, due to rust within 30cm of the upper seatbelt mounting point. Thought it was a bit harsh, as had obviously been passed before I bought it last october.... Mind you, some of the bodge ups I've found on it defy belief.... :(
Anyway, where a pop top was (very badly) fitted to it, there is almost full thickness rust above the drivers door and side window that side. Been told to fabricate or source the sections required. Shame because the plan is to use it this Summer, then put it away in a barn & do a total restoration, including cutting off the complete roof and rear corners, and putting a rust free tin top on, amongst others...
I have taken some pictures of the area I mean. Hopefully they will load.

Anyone local to Plymouth fancy giving some advice, or does anyone have some cuts I could butcher....? :?
Many thanks. Steve. 07590 605509

"Thought it was a bit harsh, as had obviously been passed before I bought it last october"

I'm an mot tester and think if you ever really need your seat belts in an emergency,he has probably done you a favour!

Don't get me wrong.... I'll take a failure on the chin along with the next person.
Just highlighting in a way the inconsistancy of testers. Was mot'd before I bought the van end of last summer, and this failure point has obviously been there far longer than that....
That's why I thought it was a bit harsh.

As a follow on though..... Is there anyone in the west country who would like to make some folding stuff....? Was always planning to take it off the road at the end of this summer, and do a total restoration. Would be very greatful if we could just get it through the mot, so I can take the kids away in it at the end of september.... :(

Need someone with advice, welder, and an infinate capacity for tea and bacon sarnies....... ;)

Torpoint area.

Take it somewhere else for the mot , that is quite odd ,the tester must have a axe to grind ,I challenge anyone to move that seatbelt mount...if it was a singlecab that section would not be there.. ;)

It`s only a ten minute job at a garage to weld a patch...

i tidied your post up a bit but your original pics were small.

i've posted a reply to your question in the tech section. should be helpful and give you an idea of whats needed.
