My heat exchanger tube is slightly too small, I know it's not a vintagespeed thing as one of heat exchangers is tighter!

Using the standard clips I simply cannot get it tight and leak free....

I've tried exhaust paste. I kind of need heat proof pfte!!

I was thinking about removing the flare on the vintagespeed and using standard bike exhaust style clamps [obviously putting a small slit in the vintagespeed stub so it'll tighten]

any ideas ? I need to get the bus rolling today to get to work tomorrow!!!

cheers

Darren

It sounds like the heat exchanger pipe may have lost some of its diameter through corrosion - its not uncommon on old heat exchangers. You can normally build up and fill the gaps with a good smearing of Gungum which has fibers in it to help bind it together.

If the gap is too big for this to work you can botch it by breaking up and using some of the old ring seal wedged in there but the only proper long term solution is to cut the section of pipe off the heat exchanger and weld on a replacement piece.

I would not recommend modifying your new expensive exhaust to cope with a knackered heat exchanger.

Guess so

It's a real pain as I'm not sure I'll get parts today from b&q! I'll see if I can get some tube to bodge it for today....

Also thought it might be a better solution to the the standard fixing, but without resorting to welding flanges to the heat exchangers...

Thinking out loud.............
If it is just the joint you want i had same issue with standard setup(50mm clips were tooooooo narrow).
so i used some heater pipe, the black carded stuff same as the pipe coming off the fan shroud and used that.
Just used jubilee clips to clamp it on both ends and now i am nice and toastie and can actually feel the hot air blowing thru the heater totem pole thingy-magigy-whojamaflip.
Hope this helps.

It's the exhaust not the heat section...the stub on the heat exchanger where the exhaust fixes has reduced in size...therefore the new exhaust doesn't quite get tight enough to seal....
