My 72 gearbox has 2 switches, 1 on the side of the nose cone which I think is the reversing lights switch and 1 on the end of the nose code. You can see both in this picture. The one of the end of the nose cone has an earth wire on 1 terminal. Now I know the reversing switches +ve from the coil.

So the question is what is this extra switch. There is nothing on the wiring diagram. My 72 had no engine when I bought it but had air con fitted from a T25 so maybe something to do with this, but why would there be a switch on the gearbox.

I'm confused help!

I think I've found it. It's a vacuum advance cut off for California cars to reduce smog. I now need to make sure there is not electronic cut off valve on the vacuum lines on the engine. If it's there ditch it. This system means the vaccum advance only works in fourth and 1-3 when the temperature is above 21 deg C.

Found it in the Bentley manual Engine & Clutch Page 63
