Had my bus almost 2 years now and gradually built up the distances covered. Went to EBI this year and did have to adjust the points once but otherwise perfect.
Get up to date with inspecting/ re-furbing all the running gear then you know what has been done and perhaps more importantly, are familiar with the thing and know what to expect if a repair is needed when out and about.
Like the others say, anything to do with petrol or brakes (and steering) needs to be sorted properly straight away.
And when you do replace parts, get the best (German) you possibly can. Beware, there is an awful lot of absolute crap quality stuff out there that should not be allowed to be on sale.
