Had my bus almost 2 years now and gradually built up the distances covered. Went to EBI this year and did have to adjust the points once but otherwise perfect.
Get up to date with inspecting/ re-furbing all the running gear then you know what has been done and perhaps more importantly, are familiar with the thing and know what to expect if a repair is needed when out and about.
Like the others say, anything to do with petrol or brakes (and steering) needs to be sorted properly straight away.
And when you do replace parts, get the best (German) you possibly can. Beware, there is an awful lot of absolute crap quality stuff out there that should not be allowed to be on sale.

Add to that tyres and seatbelts, I always fit new, my bus had a tyre on the spare wheel dated 1979

Crap parts .............cough ............JKampers.............cough

Agree with everyones sentiments regarding getting everything sorted.

Remember when the guy who dropped my van off after I bought it. He mentioned that the calipers had been replaced, but the van was pulling to the left under braking, but nothing to worry about!
Well, took the wife and 2 kids on a 200 mile round trip and scared myself sh@tless..
Never again - ended up that on the offside, the brake disk had next to know metal left on it, and the pads were down to the metal
